WELCOME TO:

THE PHILIPPINE CARABAO CENTER!

Interested in carabaos? Then let’s get moo-ving with this journey. Kammy’s best friend is Baubau, and she is an absolute sweetheart! Baubau loves to provide for her community, providing all sorts of things for people to enjoy. The best part is that she’s a Carabao! As a Carabao, her favorite thing to do in Nueva Ecija is to graze the fields with her friends and family. She also believes that food brings communities together! With that being said, her family decided to work with the government to do just that.

The Philippine Carabao Center is a government agency under the Department of Agriculture. PCC is dedicated to promoting, conserving, and developing the Philippine Carabao for milk, meat, draft power, and leather to help uplift the lives of Filipino farmers. The center was created under the Department of Agriculture through RA 7307 in 1992. The government recognized the importance of carabaos in the livelihoods of smallholder farm families, who raised 99.99% of the carabao population by institutionalizing the Carabao Development Program.

As of now, a tour around the whole place is the main thing that is offered by PCC. You get to see cool places like the area where the National Livestock Cryobank and the carabaos from a viewing deck at the Gene Pool. Hey, maybe you will get to see some of Baubau’s friends! The last two places are going to excite you! You get to see how the carabao milk is pasteurized and packed at Milka Krem, their dairy store.

Here, Baubau makes the sweetest treats for you to try. Pastillas! Ice Cream! Kesong Puti! It’s all so good, and if you’re lucky, you can watch them making them too. If you’re feeling hungry after the tour, Kardeli’s got you covered! It’s their restaurant that serves carabao-based dishes like pares and papaitan. They also sell frozen carabao meat like tocino and tapa on top of selling beautiful carabao hide-based products called Cara Cuero.

Kammy had so much fun, but here are some of his favorite spots!

GENE POOL

Carabaos in the metro are impossible to see, so here at the Gene pool, you can see them from afar at a viewing deck, or if you're lucky, the tour guide can let you see them up close while they are having their feeding. Fun fact: The oldest carabao in Nueva Ecija is in PCC at 28 years old!

CRYOBANK

Ever thought about preserving your genetics? Here at the PCC, you can see the cryobanks filled with semen in nitrogen that preserves the genes of the carabaos. Fun fact: the oldest sample they have in possession was collected back in 2013, 12 years ago!

It’s been a blast spending time with Baubau and her family, but adventure awaits! As a memento, Baubau gave Kammy a stamp to place on his journal that you can collect, too! Head to the office at this location to collect your stamp!
